Summary of Memorandum of Agreement
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
First off I would like to thank our members who attended the November 12th bargaining update meeting. For those of you who were unable to attend, I would like to provide a brief overview. We received an overwhelming, positive response and full support of our position in negotiations. You have empowered the bargaining committee to do whatever it takes to obtain the best deal possible for Local 30 civic unit members.
As we head into mediation with the employer, we think we can get to the provincial average of 3.15% and we feel you deserve nothing less. Considering the current growth of the City of Edmonton and the current economic times, we feel that this goal is achievable. Without our work the city would grind to a halt. The city’s position at this point undervalues the work you do on a daily basis. The message we received last night was loud and clear: The membership is 100% behind the negotiating committee.
Mediation is approaching quickly and we feel secure that our data will support our position and a fair deal can be reached. If talks break down, we may ask you to participate in a vote giving us a strong message to take back to their principals. Together we can achieve our goal, but without unity in showing our willingness to stand up for what we deserve, we may not be able to get the provincial municipal average.
I hope you answer the call if it comes and take up the good fight.
In solidarity and on behalf of your civic bargaining team,
Civic Bargaining Communique
