Union calls city councilor to task for comments regarding employees
EDMONTON – The President of a union representing 3,000 city of Edmonton employees is taking Councilor Andrew Knack to task for radio comments regarding bargaining.
Knack was quoted in the media saying city employees should be ready for wage freezes. CUPE 30 President Mike Scott says that kind of discussion belongs at the bargaining table, not in the media.
“Councilor Knack should have enough respect for Edmonton employees to know you don’t negotiate in the press,” said Scott. “There is a process involved, putting forward bargaining positions in public serves no purpose except to grandstand.”
Scott called on the councilor to withdraw his remarks, apologize, and leave bargaining to Edmonton’s appointed officials.
