Effective December 27, 2015, eligible City of Edmonton permanent employees who are members of Local 30, received an increased credit for the amount of $700.00 into their Health Care Spending Account (HCSA).
The Union receives many questions about how the HCSAs work or what kinds of items can be claimed. We are providing the following link to the City of Edmonton website where you will be re – directed to the Canada Revenue Agency’s website, so you can research to see what items are covered:
Remember you can only claim an item or medical service allowed under the Income Tax Act of Canada as a medical expense. Or you you may use your HCSA for unpaid balances or expenses not covered under your other benefit plans. For example you can claim: vision care expenses, prescription drug expenses, dental, benefit premiums, etc.
